Over Center Latch 

A surgical device is configurable to change state from an open state to a close state of jaws of a device  that closes on tissue.  This tissue within the jaws can be affected by thermal means creating hemostasis  or other change.  The issue can be affected by mechanical or electrical transection means. 


A linkage system can be affected to control the open and closed state.  This system can consist of a  manual or powered linkage system.  The linkage system can advance beyond an over center position, in  which at least 2 links change from a respective angle of less than 180 degrees to over 180 degrees.  The  resultant force from the closure system is locked from undoing this bend of the links over 180 degrees.  A separate force from the tissue force from the jaws is needed to open the closure system.  This opening  force is from the manual opening on a closure trigger as illustrated.  It is also envisioned that the closure  opening system could be powered.  The linkage is represented in the illustration below by red and green  links, representing the open and closed state respectively.  Point 1 is a pilotable static point.  Point 2 is  the pivot of the links.  Point 3 is a pilotable translatable point that affects the ...
