Current computer systems and development tools return minimal , often unintelligible, error and warning messages when anomalous events occur (e.g., a returned web page containing nothing but "404" or"303")
The novel contribution is a function to automatically search for , retrieve, and return supplemental related information along with a given error or warning indicator .
For example, an error occurs during processing by a given system (e.g., web server). The associated error indicator is "404". The novel function automatically executes a
web browser search on "error 404" and retrieves information concerning the given error. The function augments the search for related information with the context in which the error occurred, including, but not limited to:
• The type of the given system • Time and date • Identifiers of the end-users • Identifiers of the developers of the components responsible for the given error
• System load at the time of the error
The function returns to the user the error indicator plus the retrieved related information .
Additionally, the function can sort and filter the retrieved information (e.g., only returns the first top five retrieved pieces of related information ).
