As described below, the use of a unique identification code on a display page of a display unit allows customers and dealers to use mobile devices to interact with each other and a manufacturer or other product provider. Customers or dealers can receive up‐to‐date support on issues and features as well as giving feedback or reporting new issues to the provider.
For example, a display unit may refer to a display unit in a vehicle such as an off‐road vehicle or work vehicle. The display unit may display pages to the vehicle operator (e.g., a customer or a dealer) containing information regarding various vehicle features and systems. The display unit generates a unique code for the page it is currently on and encodes additional vehicle, system, component, or product information into the code as well. This unique identification code (e.g., matrix barcode such as a QR code (Quick Response code)) may be captured by a smart device (e.g., smartphone), a portable computer, or other imaging device, and understood by a provider support application to access a website or otherwise provide information or assistance to the customer or dealer.
The unique identification code and an associated application for the smart device allows a provider to deliver up‐to‐date content to a customer based on software version and machine/system configuration of the product of the provider. By using a mobile device this content could include videos, tutorials, audio, in addition to the latest hard copy publications. Delivered content may also be customized to match the needs of the customer or dealer based on the information that the provider received from the identification code. For example, if the vehicle has a satellite navigation receiver (e.g., Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver) and an implement, such as a work tool for an agricultural or construction task, content could be included for those items as well, including set up instructions to set up the vehicle, the implement, or both.
