CAE Sound propagation Prediction Method

Several physical tests are conducted to ensure the vehicle horn comply with sound pressure regulation of united nations (ECE28) This requirement is affected by the position of the horn in the front end space and is subject to different variables including but not limited to packaging, wiring and heat.

This requirement is verified through physical testing,
which takes place until prototype vehicles are
available and results in very high costs if changes in design are needed. SUV front end was used to perform the CAE analysis to predict the horn sound pressure.


The picture to the left shows the basic requirements to perform the CAE analysis which are:

-Virtual.Lab software
-Detalied finite element model of the front end of the car
-Create acoustic elements that capture the response of the radiated noise of the component inside and field elements that capture the sound of the studied vehicle at a certain distance).

The picture to the right shows that prediction of the horn sound is sensitive to position and to surrounding components inside the front end of the vehicle. AGS and other components geometries can be included to capture their effect in the sound of the horn. Several positions for the horn are evaluated (P1-P2-P3- Base)
