A Method to Improve HWR Quality on Smart Device

Smart device plays an important role in people's social life, being used to connect to the world. Various input methods are offered to enter characters, and one of the most impressive option is Handwriting. Essentially useful for people who are not familiar with the text input can easily write out the characters they want. E.g. the aged people and for some uncommon characters.

The invention uses in-built Accelerometer to enhance accuracy of HWR on Smart Device in the scenarios depicted in above section. Composites of Smart Device at least include a) Touch Panel allowing user to handwrite with; b) Software / Hardware recognizing hand writing; c) Accelerometer capturing instantaneous accelerated velocity; Touch Panel is not limited to any specific type, e.g. it can be Resistance or Capacitance liquid crystal. Similarly to Software / Hardware and Accelerometer are neither limited. The best matching scenarios for the invention is in a bumpy motion circumstance, but it's not limited either. The invention applies scenarios of handwriting recognition defined with a, b and c, and it may not be significantly enhancement if handwriting is in a stable and motionless environment, certainly no negative effect brought either.

The method is targeting to amend handwriting results captured by Smart Device in preprocess of HWR, through calculation of Smart Device's movements, which are tracked by Accelerometer and calculated by the invention. Variations of Accelerometer are captured within a small interval, considered as a single segment of effects impacting user's handwriting. Thresholds of accelerated rate are used for validating a movement - tiny changes will be considered as not-impacting and drastic changes as exceptions, and both will be ignored. After user completing a writing, compensation of movement applies to each segment of the writing and output of which will be used as input for HWR. Details are illustrated in next section.

Process of HWR includes three main steps - Writing, Preprocessing and Handwriting Recognition. This invention adds one more step prior to preprocessing - Inverse Compensation to original user's writing. Refer to Graph 1 for the process of the invention.
