This paper is concerned with a fastener that can be installed according to two different installation  methods, i.e. with interference fit or with clearance fit.  Such a fastener could strongly reduce the number of references used in Final Assembly Lines. 


In the aircraft industry for instance, it is common for fixing plates the ones with the others, to use  fasteners inserted in a crossing opening practiced through the plates.  Two types of fasteners could  be used, the first type (figure 1) can be mounted in interference fit and the second type (figure 2)   can be mounted in clearance fit . 
As it can be seen at figures 1 or 2, a fastener has the overall shape of a screw with a head and a  threaded stem.

 As to fasteners mounted in interference fit:  the stem has a threaded print at its point (see  figure 1).  
For the installation of such a fastener, a chuck is screwed in the threaded print in order to  draw using an adequate tool, the fastener inserted through the crossing opening. Once the  fastener  is  sufficiently  drawn  through  the  crossing  opening,  a  nut  is  then  screwed  on  the  stem, without b...
