A new gesture to scroll up or down easier for user to review documents on devices, especially paged document on mobile devices through reducing user interactions and body movements. A touching action informs the device that current document is selected, next moving action(move up or down) with touching the display area tells the screen to scroll up or down automatically at a default pace or user-configured pace, until touching is finished, which ends the gesture.

1. Background: What is the problem solved by your invention? 1.1 Background A web page or a document is always displayed as several pages in software, especially on mobile devices. It is common to scroll up or down when to view it, user needs to use keyboard or thumb to do it, one action one scrolling, so for one with pages to read at one time, user would keep making the action.

1.2 Problem by example In software devices, taking mobile device as example, there are display area and home button area.


When to scroll up or down, user does steps below 1)touch display area by thumb; 2)move thumb upwards or downwards in display area with touching; 3)move thumb left from display area;


For each scrolling up/down, user does one round with step 1), 2) and 3). So for paged content, user has to repeat many rounds to read all of the content.

In this invention, it introduces a method to scroll up/down easily for paged content. After that, user can do one or less actions to read all of the content or most parts of it.

In each action, it can also tell device to keep scroll up or down when to keep thumb in the same position after moving thumb up or down, until thumb leaves display area.

In this method, there is no need for user to keep moving thumb to tell device to scroll up or down in order to read one paged content. For nowadays, mobile devices are common and more contents are displayed on such devices, keeping moving will bring much more workload for hands and make them uncomfortable, even hurts, especially to thumbs when holding the devices. This method will save workload for hands.

Meanwhile, user needs to hold mobile device by thumb anyway for most of time, the step 3) in this method will be easy for user to do.
