The present disclosure relates to seamless aggregation member link transitioning to reduce power consumption based on Ingress Virtual Output Queue (VOQ) and shaper credit control to achieve energy efficiency in link aggregation of 802.3az based links. The present disclosure achieves zero traffic loss during traffic flow movement from one port to other port and avoids packet re-ordering while traffic flow movement happens. LACP state machine changes are provided to allow a port to resume from the COLLECTING state to the DISTRIBUTING state. The present disclosure utilizes an IEEE 802.3az based solution to reduce power consumption of aggregated links. Also, the present disclosure includes a multiple threshold-based approach to have a different threshold for moving into power save mode and coming out of power save mode.
