FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates generally to the field of virtual reality applications, in particular

to gaming and body exercising engagement, with the impression of a free movement within a

virtual generated environment by using VR-equipment (3D glasses)

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

In today’s 3D virtual reality applications does the real environment get preset as a flat and

finite plane or in newer versions also in walkable balls (‘hamster-ball’ -> virtusphere, which

provides the advantage of an infinite plane but without any active motion control ), see Fig.1

IDEA

Based on this already available hamster-ball feature, the new proposal extends this concept

with a motion drive which gets controlled via the derivation of 3D landform and topography

out of a VR application. This Motion control of the hamster-ball does take active care on the

slope of a hill to climb (brake action, Fig. 2), walk down a hill (accelerate, Fig. 3) and even to

change direction (turn, Fig. 5). This could e.g. also be extended to a bicycle ride instead of

walking.

Capturing the vital function (pulse, blood pressure, sweat, oxygen saturation) of the moving

person can be used as a cognitive feedback for dynamic adjustment of the landform, in the

VR visualization and also for the motion control of the hamster-ball.

Another feature is to direct connect these individual, real-time captured medical relevant data

into the Watson Health Development. This could contribute into an extended real-time mo-

tion control and of course to extend medical data bases and to support the development of

further diagnostic methods.

State of the Art

• Standard Hamster-ball -> just a flat area, inertia problem

• Treadmill (exercise machine) -> no infinite plane

In today’s state of the art body exercising equipment, there is no real direct impression of a

landform or topography which, being projected via a VR headset, could be emulated by an

active motion of the Hamster-ball, individually adjusted in its strength by the measured vital

parameters of the exercising person.

Depending on the VR projected landform, the active motion control via an omni wheel does

brake, accelerate or turn the hamster-ball. The direction, in which the person wants to move

to, gets determined by the view direction in the VR-glasses.
