Abstract

The present disclosure relates to characterizing optical fiber channels for jitter and polarization state via optical transceivers. Specifically, an optical transceiver is configured with circuitry for jitter characterization by controlling phase sweeps of a clock and circuitry for State of Polarization (SOP) characterization. Advantageously, the characterization approaches described herein are built in (integrated) in an optical transceiver and using existing functional blocks. This provides a design which is low cost, less complex, less power and space saving, etc.
