Method and System for Sound-Based Detection of Equipment Usage for Alerting Users

Disclosed is a method and system for sound-based monitoring of current usage of recreational equipment for determining a probability of availability of the recreational equipment for providing alerts to users. The Figure is illustrative of the steps involved in sound-based monitoring of current usage of recreational equipment, in accordance with the method and system. The method and system includes one or more microphone and network enabled sensor devices. The microphone and network enabled sensor device placed in an area of a plurality of recreational equipment capture sounds associated with the plurality of recreational equipment. The microphone and network enabled sensor device is connected to a centralized Audio Analysis system. In a first step, a sound recording is captured from one or more microphone and network enabled sensor devices while recreational equipment is being used. Accordingly, the captured sound recording is saved in the centralized audio analysis system as a baseline for future references. Subsequently, at pre-determined intervals or on demand, the microphone and network enabled sensor device captures a brief sound recording. In the next step, the brief sound recording undergoes audio analysis with respect to the previously recorded baseline using mechanisms including, but not limited to, content based audio indexing and fingerprinting techniques. Based on the audio analysis, a probability of usage of the recreational equipment is determined by the centralized audio analysis system for further sharing an equipment-in-use indicator. Alternatively, the equipment-in-use indicator is supplemented with a degree of confidence to an end user.
