Disclosed is a method and system for rendering personalized advertising to occupants of an elevator car. The following Figure illustrates the block diagram of the system illustrating various components that interacts with each other to deliver personalized advertisements to occupants of an elevator.

The method and system begins by analyzing and classifying occupants. For this, the system continually monitors the occupants of an elevator car. The system utilizes visual analytics of images obtained from existing video cameras mounted inside and outside the elevator car to determine when occupants enter or exit the elevator car. A visual analytics module uses facial recognition to determine properties of each individual as they enter the elevator car, such as gender and age range. The system utilizes a series of classifiers to identify groups of occupants with shared traits. In an embodiment, the system includes a gender classifier that determines whether the occupants are all-female, all-male, or a mix. The gender classifier determines the majority gender in a situation where both genders are represented. The system also includes an age classifier that determines if occupants are all senior citizens, or mostly children.

When more than one individual enters the elevator car at a stop, a relationship classifier analyzes that group to determine the likely nature of the relationship(s) between members of the group, such as romantic, family, friends/co-workers. The system further includes a language classifier that uses a microphone to detect the language of any conversation occurring within the elevator. The system also includes a product classifier that determines attributes of any recognizable aspects of an occupant's clothing or items in their possession, such as whether a rider is holding a smartphone, and the brand, if that can be determined. Further, the system also includes weight classifier that gathers data available to the elevator car, such as the current weight of occupants. By counting riders entering and exiting the car and comparing the current weight to the weight at the previous stop, the system maintains an average rider weight, as well as a per-rider weight in situations where only one person is riding in the car, or only one person enters the car at a stop Based on the information collected so far, the system classifies each occupant into one or more cohorts. Moving on, the system identify represented segments from cohorts. The system's classification capabilities enable a mapping of occupants to target segments for advertising campaign(s) specified by advertisers. An advertising campaign has properties such as start and end dates, budget, and target audience(s), expressed as a combination of specific geographic/demographic/psychographic/behavioral traits, often referred to as a segment.
