An apparatus and method for reducing eddy current losses in an electromagnetic device secured to a baseplate. An apparatus includes an electromagnetic device comprising a core and at least one winding and a non-conductive shim positioned between the at least one winding of the electromagnetic device and the core of the electromagnetic device. A method includes positioning a non-conductive shim between at least one winding of an electromagnetic device and a core of the electromagnetic device and attaching the non-conductive shim to a baseplate to secure the electromagnetic device to the baseplate, thereby providing structural integrity and inhibiting circulating eddy currents in the non-conductive shim and reducing eddy current losses in the electromagnetic device during operation of the electromagnetic device.
