Method and System for Facilitating Efficient Parking of an Autonomous Vehicle

Disclosed is a method and system for facilitating smart communication between an autonomous vehicle and an electric door opening means for parking the autonomous vehicle within a garage. The method and system determines a degree of advantage and a degree of risk and accordingly signals the electric door opening means of a garage door for the autonomous vehicle to enter the garage. In accordance with the method and system, one or more cameras along with a plurality of sensors are employed to estimate a degree of risk, followed by a degree of advantage, within a garage. The degree of risk is estimated based on one or more parameters, including, but not limited to, a video feed from within the garage, showing objects in the garage (for example: a bike tossed into the middle of the garage, a pet in the garage), presence of an object in front of the garage door (for example: packages left by a mail man against the garage door, detection of a deleterious drop in temperature in the garage due to open doors, wind, water or snow entering the garage, an estimate of difficulty of opening an autonomous vehicle door, an estimate of presence of valuables/fragile items in the garage and one or more overriding house security rules). In an example of a house in a security lockdown with lack of access to external doors until security lockdown alert is lifted, a degree of risk exists. Accordingly, a degree of advantage is estimated, based on one or more parameters, including, but not limited to, weather forecasts, current weather, ease of access to passenger/driver’s doors and valuables carried in the autonomous vehicle needing stronger physical protection of a covered/locked garage space if left overnight.
