The invention described herein is a scanner with two different projected light systems, or aim patterns, that scanners could use to readily indicate a mode change to the user. For example, when RFID is not enabled, the scanner would only show the aimer dot, but when RFID is enabled, it would show a different aim pattern such as an aimer cross. This aimer pattern could be left on constantly between imaging frames to indicate to the user that the scanner is in a particular mode.
