Abstract

The present disclosure relates to a hitless replacement of Border Gateway Protocol-Labeled Unicast (BGP-LU) tunnel due to a topology change and Interior Gateway Protocol (IGP) tunnel selection and load balancing in BGP-LU. This disclosure provides hitless traffic during modification of BGP LU tunnels and does not require customized dataplane APIs for tunnel modification. Also, a scheme of combining the detection of bandwidth exhaustion in underlay transport, on-demand increases the transport capacity in the underlay, redistribution of the overlay on to the increased capacity in a fair-share and then frees up network resources by coalescing overlays on to reduced underlay transport during deaccelerated usage. This applies to intelligent re-balancing during expansion and reduction of capacity in the underlay.
