Abstract

Polymer particles (granular or pellets) can have porosity or surface roughness which can trap moisture during the manufacturing process. It is well-established that extended drying time is required for removal of moisture trapped in pores, cavities, surface roughness, melt fracture or absorbed within the polymer. Therefore, a continuous dryer must be designed with sufficient residence time and narrow residence time distribution.
