The invention discloses a system and a method to hold or retain an anesthetic bottle during an anesthetic fill process that may allow for precise timing of the fluid and gas exchange between the bottle and vaporizer. This minimizes the anesthetic agent losses and may minimize exposure to anesthetic during the installation and removal of the anesthetic agent bottle. The anesthetic vaporizer fill system includes an anesthetic agent bottle having threaded features on the bottle nozzle to interface with an anesthetic vaporizer agent reservoir. The threads and the fill assembly may maintain control of the bottle so that the clinical user may choose to let go of the anesthetic agent bottle during the fill process. The advantages of the invention include attachment of the anesthetic bottle to the vaporizer with ease during a fill, and reduced consumption of anesthetic agent due to reduced leakage during the filling process.
