A shopper uses a financial institution's application to define and authorize a transaction (credit or debit) against his/her account. The financial institution then generates a QR, or other machine-readable code, that represents this transaction. The shopper is then free to present this code at the merchant of his choice without additional authorization required at the point of purchase.
