The invention concerns a method and a tool for removing a polymeric layer of a cable partially such that full circumferential access to a metallic sheath of the cable is provided. This paper promotes a solution that allows for a removal of the polymeric layer on top of the metallic sheath on locations other than the end sections of the cable and thus allows for establishing a reliable and satisfactory earthing of the cable for avoiding undesired antenna effects, for example. Depending on the embodiment of the cable, the cable content may be wires or optical glass fibers or any other light or signal guides, for example. The concept discloses a cable stripping tool comprising a first member and a second member that can be attached to a common cable plier for performing this operation such that no extensive tools are available.
