The present disclosure relates to a patient gross motion correction in a multi-modality or a single modality system. The system comprises a point cloud technique and 3D depth cameras, in which cameras are mounted on the ceiling of the scanner room and inside the bore of the scanner to monitor the patient throughout the scan and generates point cloud. The point cloud technique corrects the motion mismatches between two or multiple modalities to thereby provide artifact-free clinical images and solve multiple issues from an install base for brain acquisitions. This motion correction system avoids the situation of repeat or extra scans and reduces extra radiation to the patient.
